Common Questions
Can I do anything to get better pictures of my baby?
Why yes,
you can. Drink plenty of water for at least 3 days prior to your
appointment so you are well hydrated. This may increase the amniotic
fluid, which makes better pictures. Also, have something to eat
or drink right before your appointment to try and increase baby's
activity during your session.
Do
I need a doctor’s order?
No.
This
is an ELECTIVE way to see your baby before birth. The
sessions are not covered by insurance, and they are NOT to take the
place of a routine diagnostic exam ordered by the OB/GYN/ healthcare
provider. Think of this as a photography studio for your unborn child!
Do
I need permission from my prenatal healthcare provider?
Because
we do not evaluate the baby, we require proof of active prenatal care.
At some point before the appointment, you can print our Verification
Form and take it to your next OB check-up and have it signed by your
healthcare provider. If that is not possible, you can fill out our Consent Form when you arrive for your appointment.
When
is the best time to get a 3D/4D ultrasound?
To
make
it easy, just click on our calendar page and click on your estimated
due date to see the best dates for you. The baby must be at least 18
weeks, at this stage gender can be determined if desired, and the entire
baby can be seen on the screen at once. From 18-22 weeks the baby has a
skeletal appearance because the fat has not developed under the skin.
After 24 weeks, the fat fills in the face and extremities giving a
softer appearance. Most mommies-to-be enjoy seeing the baby around
18-20 weeks, then again at 27-36 weeks. In the third trimester, the baby
is too large to be seen all at once on the screen, but you get to see those nice
chubby cheeks!
Are
appointments required?
Yes.
Our
appointments fill up fast so give us a call to get the time that is
most convenient for you and your family and friends.
Can
I bring anyone to the appointment?
Please
do! Having the ones you love present makes it that much better! You all
will watch in awe as you see the new life doing what they do best.
It is our goal to allow expectant families to share the bond that is
created when you get to see the baby move and grow. Please
bring up to 10 people you want to join in the excitement of watching
your baby suckle, yawn or even smile!
Is
3D/4D Ultrasound safe?
Ultrasound
has been used for over 30 years to image the soft tissues of the body
including the growing, developing fetus. In this time, there have been no
studies proving harmful effects are caused from ultrasound. Many
speculate, but that is why it is important that your prenatal
healthcare provider be aware of your decision to get an ELECTIVE 3D/4D
ultrasound. At First Sight uses a state-of-the-art GE Voluson 730
operated by a Board Certified technologist licensed in OB/GYN
ultrasound. This machine uses the same ultrasound waves used during a
diagnostic fetal exam in the doctor’s office. The only difference is
the 3D/4D technology. This technology allows the normal 2D image to
translate into a three dimensional image, and then allows you to see the
baby move in “real time.” You will be amazed at the similarity of the
image once the baby is born.
Who
will perform the ultrasound?
At
First
Sight is owned and operated by a Board Certified/Licensed OB/GYN
Ultrasound Technologist. Only certified/licensed techs specifically
trained in OB ultrasound will perform your Elective Prenatal
Ultrasound. Even if you do not choose At First Sight, please understand
the importance of this question and inquire about it wherever you are
scanned.
Will
I get perfect pictures every time?
There
are
several factors that negate the quality of the image. Factors such as
scar tissue, placenta position, amount of amniotic fluid, baby’s
position and excess tissue in mother’s mid-section. If there is not
enough fluid in front of the structure, it cannot be seen in 3D/4D. If
this occurs during your session and no images are obtained...$50 will be charged, but if you decide to
return within a week, the $50 will be applied to your total package
price.
